Psychosexual Therapy (PST)

Many of our experiences of love, intimacy and sexuality are linked unconsciously to feelings of shame, guilt or fear and we do not always recognise that our thoughts about these topics prevent us from fully expressing and receiving love.

There are a variety of reasons why psychosexual therapy may be undertaken by individuals and couples experiencing sexual problems or difficulties. If your relationship is affected by sexual difficulties, Psychosexual or sex therapy will help you learn more satisfying sexual behaviour and to develop a sense of confidence and enjoyment in making love.

Psychosexual therapy can help overcome difficulties in obtaining and keeping the intimate relationships that you want. It can also provide an opportunity to explore your feelings about sex.

Some sexual problems are physical, resulting from disability, illness or a side-effect from medication. Some difficulties are psychological, rooted in negative childhood messages or sexual trauma or caused from relationship difficulties.

Psychosexual therapy is a form of therapy which deals with the psychological aspect of sexual problems. These problems could range from general sexual difficulties in a relationship such as lack of communication between couples to specific psychosomatic problems such as erectile difficulties, premature/retarded/inhibited ejaculations, loss of sexual interest, painful or impossible intercourse, unconsummated marriages, sexual health concerns, sexual phobias and sexual orientation difficulties.

Pschosexual therapy explores sacred sexuality, sexual energy, desire, pleasure, and your right to feel and express emotions. To embrace your sexuality as a special, and sacred, part of your life.

Sexual Addiction

Sexual addictions are caused by misuse of a person's natural sex drive. Sexual addiction is the description used for the thoughts and behaviour of a person with an abnormally high sex drive or obsession with sexual activity. Sexual addiction can affect day-to-day routine and ability to form long-lasting relationships. Behaviours associated with sexual addiction can include compulsive masturbation, affairs, one-night stands, pornography use and voyeurism.

Generally, a person with a sex addiction gains little satisfaction from the sexual activity and forms no emotional bond with his or her sex partners. In addition, the problem of sex addiction often leads to feelings of guilt and shame. A sex addict also feels a lack of control over the behavior, despite negative consequences (financial, health, social, and emotional). The behaviour is experienced as preoccupative and out of control. People may feel that they cannot stop the behaviour or find abstaining difficult. The pattern of behaviour may present harmful consequences. which may include health risks, professional misconduct, impaired parenting, financial loss, damage to marriage and other primary relationships and the neglect of important personal and vocational goals.
